Joe’s plan was always to go to college, and enlistment was an opportunity to make that dream a reality. The Cold War ended, and Joe enlisted soon after. In no time Joe was sent overseas to fight in the Gulf War. After spending time overseas and seeing some action, he began the long process of coming home. But he didn't expect he would end up in years later manufacturing.
On September 30, 2014 U.S. Senator Dick Durbin visited JARC's new Addison, IL-based training program to learn more about how JARC is preparing unemployed, low-income and disadvantaged jobseekers in Chicago's western suburbs for good-paying jobs in manufacturing.

The manufacturing training programs at Jane Addams Resource Corporation (JARC) were recognized as a best practice model at Friday’s White House event on Long Term Unemployment. JARC’s Careers in Manufacturing Programs target strategic skills gaps in the regional manufacturing labor market such as Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machinist and welder. The agency has placed over 200 graduates with 122 firms since January 2011.

We're proud to share the following two JARC clients who came to us without permanent housing, and successfully completed the Computer Numerical Control Fast Track job training. Special thanks to the support of a local family foundation, we began tracking the percentage of clients who at program entry were homeless, and were surprised to learn that nearly 15% of our general population was without permanent housing.

Referred by an industry partner of JARC, the company began sending two of its employees to Open Enrollment Welding training on Saturdays at JARC's Technical Training Center in July, 2011.
