Jose Torres

José learned about JARC through the Workers’ Advance Committee while organizing a rally for immigrant rights in March 2002. Two years later, he had an internship assisting the financial coach at JARC. In 2006 José joined JARC as a financial coach. In that capacity he taught financial education to low income workers, helping them to improve their money management skills. At the same time became involved with other programs at JARC, especially the Workers’ Advance Committee and Community Technology Center. In April 2008, José became director of Education and Human Development (EHD). In this position his main goals are to increase the number of participants in the various EHD programs and to connect the job training department with EHD. He believes that self sufficiency is achieved through an array of services including education, financial coaching, and job training.
