Maya Roberts
Income Supports Specialist/LISC AmeriCorps Member
Maya Roberts is a second – term AmeriCorps member, with an undergraduate degree in Communications-Broadcast Media from Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio. Prior to starting at Jane Addams Resource Corporation, she served at North Lawndale Employment Network as the Resource Center Coordinator. In that role, she was responsible for assisting clients who came into the resource center, holding workshops on computer and job-readiness skills, creating and/or strengthening relationships with other community organizations and assisting with the job readiness program for formerly–incarcerated individuals, U-Turn Permitted.
In her new role as the Income Supports Specialist for JARC, she is responsible for screening clients for public benefits such as food stamps, utility assistance, WIC and AllKids, as well as with providing assistance with the application procedures for these programs. Maya also assists clients with tax preparation services and refers clients to legal and health providers. She is looking forward to assisting as many clients as possible with gaining access to public benefits so that they will be able to create and sustain a better life for themselves and their families.
