Ray Prendergast
Executive Director
Ray Prendergast returned to JARC in November 2005 as its Executive Director. Previously Ray had served as the Lead Instructor of JARC’s Metalworking Skills Program in the mid-1990’s, before moving on to private industry as a quality assurance engineer and consultant. Ray brings over ten years of workforce development experience to the position. Under his direction, there has been substantial growth in all of JARC’s programs and the total number of program participants has more than doubled.
The manufacturing training program, in particular, has expanded into new areas including welding and youth programming and has placed more emphasis on industry certification. In the past year, JARC trainees (and instructors) have earned credentials in welding, metal forming, CNC machining, and forklift safety. As the chair of the Skill Standards Committee of the Chicago Manufacturing Renaissance Council, Ray has been leading the effort to bring industry-established skills credentials into the manufacturing training programs of area high schools, community colleges and community-based organizations.
Ray also serves on the design team for a new small high school with a manufacturing focus, Austin Polytechnic Academy, which opened in September 2007. JARC is expanding its support for the Chicago Public Schools Education-to-Careers programs with technical expertise, industry connections and training for machine shop teachers.
