The American Welding Society estimates that only about 6 percent of all welders are women. With that in mind, we are pleased to announce our new female welding instructor, Lauren Svedman. She is teaching in our simulated manufacturing classroom on MIG/GMAW, TIG, AWS and Stick welding.

Lauren moves to the position after serving as one of our employment coaches. Her responsibilities included managing and developing work readiness programming for about 30 diverse clients enrolled in JARC’s open-entry/open-exit Careers in Manufacturing programs. She has also earned professional certifications in mental health, career and job readiness, financial coaching and work with ex-offenders.

This valuable experience is combined with her previous work as a skilled welder for several greater Chicago-area manufacturers and fabricators. She produced a range of products such as confectionery equipment, indoor and outdoor metal products, and custom parts. Her wide familiarity with all facets of welding has resulted in her AWS, NIMS and OSHA certifications.

We welcome Lauren’s strong blend of capabilities in her new role as she helps our job seekers prepare themselves for a better future.
